John will provide an introduction to doing the research to find out about the people in our families who went before us with hopefully a few interesting examples taken from his own family findings. Topics covered will include starting from what you already know, census records, Civil Registration records – Birth, Marriage and Death certificates, Parish Registers, online cemetery records, Land records and Archival Newspaper research. Using online platform sites like MyHeritage to start building a family tree and connecting with others researching the same people.
John left secondary school after the Inter Cert and became an apprentice fitter / turner and worked at that for a few years. He was a student in Thomond College, Limerick and became a teacher of Metalwork, Engineering and Technical Graphics. Most of my teaching time was in Liberties Vocational School, later to be known as Liberties College, in Dublin. In the latter years, heI taught all computer related modules, mainly related to Cisco networking.
